As a parent I dread some things about school, and one of the things that gives me the greatest 'oh no' feeling is the 'what shall I dress up as' issue for World Book Day. For many years my daughter went to school dressed as Katie Morag - kilt, tights, wellies and cream coloured jumper. Then the kilt got too small and revolt set in. This year she is going as that well known girl pirate of the Lake District, Nancy Blackett. Jeans, trainers, stripy top and a red hat. Thankfully this year she has worked out the costume all by herself. Next year we are out of primary education and I hope that WBD can be celebrated by reading, not dressing up!
