Worker sacked for using Facebook in office hours

6/6/2013

It's reported that the DVLA have sacked a member of staff who was caught using Facebook on their mobile phone during office hours.  Draconian?  It would be interesting to see what policy documents are in place regarding the use of Social Media and how this ties in with the decision to sack.  It's reported that the employee had other issues which were taken into account at the time.

It is worth reviewing your policies on a regular basis to take account of new technologies - do your policies stack up with the current world and issues or are they from a few years ago and in need of a re-draft?  Social media isn't the only issue which needs to be borne in mind - what about your IT policies and use of tablets, laptops etc?

If you are struggling with this and would like some help please drop us an email, we are here to help!
