I guess we will never really know what pushed Stephen Hester into deciding to leave RBS prior to privatisation, when he's made it clear in the past that he wanted to see the bank through that stage, but I thought the humility and professionalism he demonstrated during the interviews shown on BBC News last night was impressive. I suspect that he'd quite like to have said far more but the dignity with which he handled the questions left him the greater man in whatever has gone on.
