It always amazes me how much effort people can put into getting things so absolutely wrong. The timbers had had to be cut to size for starters. SO much time and effort spent creating something so inherently unsafe. For the trainee auditor a nice one to write up, for the people responsible for the facility some urgent action to remove a real safety hazard.
I was working with a client on a safety inspection today - he was keen to his put acquired auditing skills in to practice so we decided to do an impromptu review of a facility. It was quite horrifying to note how much stuff (and I use the term to include all manner of good and crap) had been stored above head height. Great lengths had been gone to to create impromptu storage racks, all of which involved planks and the trusses of a relatively lightweight roof, and all of which could have come crashing down at any time.
