We have recently become aware that the local council is considering entering into consultation on the removal of the school buses for those children who attend denominational schools in our home city. This will have a huge impact on the pupils, and their parents, and not surprisingly there are a lot of parents (and I am one of them) who are busy writing to and speaking with people in power. It is interesting to see the sort of responses which I've received to the myriad of emails I've sent. Nothing from my MP - as yet - a very useful response from the local Lib Dem councillor, no response at all from another (Labour) councillor and finally a 'we will reply as a group' type response from the 3rd (Labour). When I pressed for this one for their 'own' view, not that of 'their party' I eventually got a reply which said how much this particular councillor was concerned about traffic reduction. Wake up and smell the coffee - over 150 children who can't get to school on the school bus = a huge number who will be taken by car because there aren't suitable service buses. I am not having my child traipse into the city centre by service bus to wait for another bus to take them to school - it will take hours. So we will get in the car and drive. In the words of Jim Royle 'traffic reduction my arse'. But go on following the party line slavishly dear Councillors - we clearly didn't elect you to represent us. I will remember this when you next come begging for votes.
