I spent time yesterday putting together a document which I hope will help my trainees look at the 8 MI's and consider what positive and negative impacts each may potentially have in an audit. Fun times and good to reflect and learn myself.
I came across Howard Gardner's work some years ago and am delighted that I now have chance to work with his MI concept via one of the programmes which I teach. I find it a really valuable tool for getting people to think about how they interact with others and the wider world, and for helping them see that not everyone views life in the same way, or reacts the same to a given situation. This learning is particularly important to auditors as so much of their 'success' depends on them being able to work effectively with the auditee group, and understanding how we give and receive information and the issues this can potentially bring to the audit situation, already fraught with suspicion and anxiety, can make a huge difference to the outcome.
