It never ceases to amaze me how little people engage brains when faced with tasks - a simple risk assessment would have shown how daft the approach was. Luckily those involved and those in the vicinity remained safe but hey, it could have been a close run thing. My friend was as aghast as I was, but I guess that this sort of thing was going on all over the country this weekend and fervently hope that anyone who took such risks managed to survive in one piece.
A friend has just included me in an email regarding some work he witnessed being done yesterday at his local sports club. They were having a jobs day and had a long list of tasks to accomplish. At some point a member of the club decided that he didn't want to do the jobs which were on the list and within a short while he was busy, cutting a large leylandii hedge. Not just cutting it with shears but with a petrol powered hedge cutter. Not content to stand on the ground he had managed to get a plank to stand on, which was resting on a small box trailer. He was, helpfully, being watched by another member, who was holding the plank.
