My daughter and I had an interesting debate over breakfast regarding the potential signing of Ched Evans by Oldham Athletic. We were watching Breakfast News and the interviews with 'concerned members of the public' prompted all sorts of questions in our minds. Yes people in high profile sports are seen as role models and should uphold the highest standards (Mother's moral high ground) but also yes, there is such a thing as doing your time for having 'done something wrong' and then moving on, and what about his protestations of innocence anyway (Daughter's moral high ground). Did we resolve our debate? No, because it was time for the school bus but I was very much encouraged by my 13 year old's grasp of the significance of the issues and her ability to see both sides of the argument and stand her ground too.
