Research which they have undertaken suggests that as many as 1 in 3 drivers would fail to meet the minimum driver eyesight requirements and as a result of this the company are keen to get Fleet and HR Managers up to speed on this issue.
Corporate Account manager at Specsavers Corporate Eyecare, Suzanne Randall, said:
“All employers have a duty of care to their employees and this includes when they are driving for work purposes. Our Driver Information Packs aim to arm fleet managers, HR professionals and health and safety experts with the details they need regarding driving vision. “We passionately believe that improved eyecare would have a big impact upon safety on our roads and that the workplace plays a vital role in
ensuring employees are fit to drive.”
The information contained within the packs includes the number plate and 20.5 meter ribbon, which gives employers a quick check to raise awareness of the issue internally and for drivers to check of they can see the number plate at the required distance.
It also includes updates regarding legislation, facts and figures, information and materials for employees, and the most recent and relevant news items. The organisation revealed that these will be constantly
updated to provide the very latest advice and information.
If you manage employees who drive for your business it might be worth using this as a safety campaign topic.
