We watched with dismay as the Cumbrian floods were shown on the TV. So many favourite places suffering such devastation. We are now in the area for a quick visit and whilst the water may have receded the waterline is still so very evident, as are the road closures, the skips outside houses and the brutal reality of it all hits you like a hammer blow. The pub in the village is shut as it was flooded out. The village shop suffered a similar fate. The hotel is also closed. Everywhere there are piles of mud, tree trunks, rubble. Evidence of the muck left by the raging torrent that ripped through the countryside and the communities. Yes it was awful on TV but oh my it's far worse in reality.
I've been exploring the requirements for organisational knowledge in the new ISO9001 with some of my clients over the last week and we've had some fascinating discussions. The realisation for one client that he had key staff who have SO much knowledge which isn't captured anywhere set in place some actions and objectives for one client, another will be considering where they go with a capture and share initiative. New clauses and requirements like this add so much value to business #loving9001:2015
It was my last long day of the year yesterday, with a trip to see a valued client for an end of year review, their management meeting and a handover from their soon to go on Maternity Leave Systems Manager of all the stuff that I'm going to be looking after during the next 12 months. A lovely day with lots of challenges ahead to keep my mind busy during 2016. Time to reflect on the train home, and now the gradual wind down to Christmas can begin. Christmas cards written and to be posted today and then we will really feel that we are heading towards a well deserved break!
Interesting to see how the level of customer service is changing on the East Coast Main Line as Virgin get into the running of the service. Staff all very nice and friendly, and helpful too but (and I appreciate this is First Class only) it's noticeable that things like the tea and coffee service and the quality and quantity of food offered has dropped right off.
